PRAYER WEEK FOR FAMILY
Family is the foundation of everything God has established and built. When marriages are healthy and families are strong, communities flourish—and ultimately, so does the nation.
That is why the family is target number one for the enemy to destroy.
The values surrounding family have shifted from strong Judeo-Christian principles to worldly norms.
This week, we will focus entirely on family and all that it includes: marriage, parenting, children, family unity, legacy, protection, peace, and declaring opportunities and blessings over families in South Africa
Scriptural Anchors:
- Joshua 24:15 (nKJV) “And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
- Colossians 3:13-14 (nKJV) “13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
DAY 2 (3 May 2026) – THE ROLE OF PARENTS
Parenting in today’s digital age is very difficult and challenging. Many Christian mothers and fathers are searching for guidance as they face parenting challenges that their own upbringing never prepared them for. Like how to balance faith-based parenting with technology and culture. How to raise children in faith when the worldly voices are pulling our children in all other directions. How do we train up a child with godly parenting principles that stand the test of time. We need Jesus to help our parents to stand in this difficult and challenging time.
ACTION ITEM 1: PRAYING FOR OUR GODLY MOTHERS
- Proverbs 31:25-28 (nKJV) “Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. 26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. 27 She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her:”
- Psalm 139:13-14 (nKJV) “13 For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb.14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.”
- 2 Timothy 1:5 (nKJV) “when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.”
Rise Up, Mothers in Strength: Our dear Heavenly Father, we bless Your holy Name and thank You for all mothers in our nation, South Africa. Today, we lift up every mother who is battle-weary, overworked, and tired. Many feel underappreciated and overwhelmed, but we ask that by Your mighty hand, You would strengthen them and renew their spirits with Your power.
Remind them that they are not alone—that You are always with them. Lord, we pray, according to Proverbs 31, that every mother would be clothed with strength and dignity, able to laugh at the days to come. When she feels weak, be her strength. Help her rise with courage, knowing that her labour is not in vain. Grant her wisdom to guide her children and the resilience to carry the weight of motherhood. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Raise the Voice of Our Praying Mothers: Father, in the precious Name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, we ask that You would amplify the voices of praying mothers across this nation. Let their prayers be heard and let them carry great power and impact throughout our land. We believe that a mother’s prayer can break negative family patterns, generational curses, and strongholds. It can bring healing and transformation to families across our nation. We ask that every tear shed by our mothers would never be wasted, but that, according to Psalm 56:8, You collect them and hold them with care.
We also lift up every spiritual mother, foster mother, and mentor—those who nurture the next generation and stand in the gap for children in their communities. Strengthen and honour them, Lord.
Blessing Over Mothers: Lord, thank You that You are a good God. Let Your love be poured out over every mother in our nation. We speak Your blessing over them—blessing of peace, provision, wisdom, and strength.
Let them be fruitful and diligent, and according to Proverbs 31, may they prosper in the work of their hands. Grant them insight and abundance for every responsibility they carry. Bless their minds, renew their strength, and establish the work of their hands. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
ACTION ITEM 2: PRAYING FOR GODLY FATHERS
- 1 Corinthians 16:13 (nKJV) “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.”
- 1 Thessalonians 2:11-12 (nKJV) “as you know how we exhorted, and comforted, and charged every one of you, as a father does his own children, 12 that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.”
- Proverbs 4:1-2 (nKJV) “Hear, my children, the instruction of a father, And give attention to know understanding; 2For I give you good doctrine: Do not forsake my law.”
Restore the Position of the Father: Father, in the Name of Jesus, we pray that You would restore and highlight the godly role of fathers in our nation. Raise up fathers to take their rightful place in their homes, communities, and churches.
Lord, we recognise their vital role in shaping and guiding the lives of their children, and we express our heartfelt gratitude for their sacrificial love and provision.
We bring a sincere petition and thanksgiving before You, our Heavenly Father—God Almighty—the ultimate example and source of fatherhood. May earthly fathers in South Africa reflect Your heart more and more. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Encouragement of Fathers: We pray for the encouragement and strengthening of all fathers in Jesus’ Name. We honour fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and all men who provide leadership, guidance, protection, and mentorship.
Let Your grace and mercy rest upon them as they influence and inspire the next generation. We celebrate their role in shaping the lives of their children, and we thank You for their sacrificial love, strength, and steadfast support.
“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.” — Psalm 103:13
Prayers of Blessing Over Fathers: Lord, we acknowledge You as our perfect Father—Abba, the One who covers us with unfailing love.
We speak Your blessing over all fathers across South Africa. Bless them with health, strength, and joy. Fill them with wisdom, discernment, and courage. Surround them with Your love and grace, and let their hearts be filled with peace and purpose.
Make them aware of the schemes of the enemy, and keep their steps firm and secure. Guard their paths and strengthen them to stand as men of faith—bold to say “no” to what is wrong and “yes” to what is right.
Fill their hearts with love, compassion, faithfulness, and joy. Let Your peace rest upon their lives, and may they lead their families with integrity and strength. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
ACTION ITEM 3: WARFARE OVER GODLY PARENTING
- Ephesians 6:4 (nKJV) “And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.”
- Proverbs 22:6 (nKJV) “Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.”
- Proverbs 29:17 (nKJV) “Correct your son, and he will give you rest; Yes, he will give delight to your soul.”
Godly Parenting: Father, in the Name of Jesus, we pray that You would restore and highlight the godly role of parents in our nation. Just as a shepherd leads and protects his sheep, guiding them with care, so Lord, guide our parents.
Help parents to lead their children with love, wisdom, correction, and protection. May discipline be rooted in truth and grace, and may their leadership reflect Your heart.
Lord, we ask for guidance in the everyday decisions parents face—schooling, friendships, and activities. Direct their steps so that every choice aligns with Your will and purpose according to Your Word.
Father, when the world feels uncertain and overwhelming, we choose to trust in You. Remove every spirit of fear from parents and replace it with a deep and abiding peace, knowing that You have a good plan for their children’s future.
Encouragement to Parents: We pray for the encouragement and strengthening of all parents in Jesus’ Name. Father, help families to walk in love and patience with one another. Let unity bind them together, and may forgiveness always triumph over offense.
Strengthen weary parents and allow them to experience Your love and peace in a fresh way. Fill them with wisdom from above and a love that knows no limits.
We especially lift up single parents who carry double responsibility. Sustain them in difficult and exhausting seasons. Lift them up in moments of weariness and remind them of Your grace and nearness.
In a world that constantly challenges a Judeo-Christian view of parenting, help parents not to grow weary of meditating on Your Word day and night. Strengthen their resolve to stand firm in truth.
Prayers of Blessing Over Parents: Lord, we acknowledge You as our perfect Father—Abba, the One who covers us with unfailing love.
We speak Your blessing over all parents across South Africa. Bless them with health, strength, and joy. Fill them with wisdom, discernment, and courage. Surround them with Your love and grace, and fill their homes with peace and purpose.
Lord, we ask for peace that surpasses all understanding to fill every home. Where there is tension, conflict, or stress, we declare Your peace, harmony, and unity. Let forgiveness flow freely and quickly.
Jesus, You have compassion for the weary. We lift up every parent who feels exhausted or burdened, and we speak restoration over their souls. Grant them rest and remind them that Your grace is sufficient for every season. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
