WEEK 13: THE CHURCH AS SALT AND LIGHT
Day 88 (27 August 2026)
Theme: The Church’s Prophetic Voice In Society
Praying for the Church in South Africa to embrace her prophetic responsibility within society by discerning the mind and purposes of God and faithfully bringing His truth, righteousness, wisdom, and perspective into the environments where people, institutions, and culture are being shaped. Praying for believers who will neither remain silent in the face of unrighteousness nor speak from human opinion, but will be governed by Scripture, led by the Holy Spirit, and motivated by the love and purposes of God.
Action item 1: Pray for the Church to discern the times and the mind of God.
1 Chronicles 12:32 (KJV) “And of the children of Issachar, [which were men] that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them [were] two hundred; and all their brethren [were] at their commandment.”
Romans 12:2 (KJV) “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
John 16:13 (KJV) “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”
- Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, awaken spiritual discernment within Your Church. Give us understanding of the times in which we are living and wisdom to know what Your people ought to do. Deliver us from reacting merely to headlines, public opinion, political pressure, cultural trends, or human reasoning. Renew our minds through Your Word and teach us to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit. Give Your Church eyes to see beyond the surface and discern the deeper spiritual and moral realities affecting our communities, institutions, and nation. May we not be a Church that is constantly surprised by the direction of society, but a discerning people who understand Your purposes and respond according to Your wisdom. Amen.
Action item 2: Pray for courage to speak truth with righteousness and love.
Ephesians 4:15 (KJV) “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, [even] Christ:”
2 Timothy 1:7–8 (KJV) “7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. 8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;”
Micah 6:8 (KJV) He hath shewed thee, O man, what [is] good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
- Father, give Your Church courage to speak truth in a generation where truth is increasingly contested. Remove fear of rejection, intimidation, persecution, or loss of influence. Establish within Your people a holy confidence that comes from knowing that we represent Christ. Teach us to speak truth without arrogance and to confront unrighteousness without hatred. Let our prophetic voice be governed by love, humility, justice, wisdom, and compassion. Where correction is needed, give us grace to correct. Where warning is necessary, give us courage to warn. Where hope is needed, give us words that restore. Let the Church never use truth as a weapon for personal agendas, but faithfully represent the heart and purposes of Christ; we pray in Jesus Christ’s name.
Action item 3: Pray for God’s truth to influence the places that shape society.
Matthew 5:14–16 (KJV) “14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Proverbs 11:10–11(KJV) “10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, [there is] shouting. 11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.”
Jeremiah 29:7 (KJV) “And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.”
- Father, in the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ, let the prophetic witness of Your Church penetrate every place where the values and direction of our society are being shaped. Raise believers who will carry Your wisdom into communities, institutions, workplaces, education, business, government, media, arts, and every sphere where culture is formed. Let biblical truth influence decisions. Let righteousness influence policies and practices. Let justice influence systems. Let compassion influence how people are treated. Let integrity influence leadership and stewardship. Teach Your Church not merely to identify what is wrong in society, but to become part of the righteous solution. Position Your people strategically and give them favour, wisdom, courage, and credibility to influence their environments for the glory of Christ. May the Church become a faithful prophetic presence whose influence contributes to the transformation of communities, institutions, and culture throughout South Africa.
