WEEK 17: DISCIPLING THE NATION
Day 117 (25 September 2026)
Theme: Transmitting Kingdom Values Across Generations:
Praying for a generational discipleship culture to be established across South Africa, where the knowledge of God, His Word, His ways, and His Kingdom values are intentionally transmitted from one generation to the next. We pray against the loss of biblical foundations between generations and for parents, families, churches, educators, mentors, and leaders to faithfully raise and equip those coming after them. As disciples make disciples, Kingdom values must become a generational inheritance rather than a temporary experience.
Action item 1: Pray for families and the Church to embrace their responsibility for generational discipleship.
Psalm 78:5-7 “He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers teach to their children, 6 that the next generation might know them, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children, 7 so that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments”

Father, awaken families across South Africa to the responsibility You have given them to disciple the next generation. Father, let the goal of generational discipleship be more than transferring information. In the name of Jesus. Psalm 78 speaks of making God’s truth known to the next generation so that they would “set their hope in God.”
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

Father, restore the teaching of Your Word to the centre of family life. Father, establish a spiritual inheritance that will continue from generation to generation. In Jesus’ name. “You shall teach them diligently to your children.” (Deuteronomy 6:7)
Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Father, help families and churches tell the next generation about Your faithfulness, Your mighty works, Your provision, Your protection, and Your answers to prayer. Father, raise up parents, grandparents, pastors, teachers, mentors, and leaders whose lives provide godly examples for those coming after them. In the name of Jesus. Psalm 78 calls God’s people to tell the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD.
Action item 2: Pray for the next generation to be rooted in God’s word and Kingdom identity.
2 Timothy 1:5 “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.”

Father, establish the next generation deeply in Your Word. Father, establish emerging leaders across South Africa in biblical truth, godly character, wisdom, and servant leadership. In Jesus’ name. “Continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed.” (2 Timothy 3:14)
2 Timothy 3:14-15 “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it 15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”

Father, let the faith that has been entrusted to previous generations be faithfully passed on to those coming after them. Father, strengthen parents to fulfil their responsibility of teaching, discipling, correcting, encouraging, and modelling godly living before their children. In Jesus’ name. “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice.” (2 Timothy 1:5)
Ephesians 6:4 “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

Father, Father, give the next generation discernment to recognise what is contrary to Your truth. Father, establish the identity of the next generation in Christ. In Jesus’ name. “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit.” (Colossians 2:8)
Action item 3: Pray for generations to walk together in kingdom purpose and legacy.
Joel 2:28 “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, and your young men shall see visions.”

Father, bring healing and reconciliation between generations in families, churches, and communities. Father, create opportunities for different generations to serve together in Your Kingdom. “Bear with one another in love.” (Ephesians 4:2)
Titus 2:3-5 “Older women likewise are to be reverent in behaviour, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, 5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.”

Father, awaken older believers to the value of their experience and spiritual wisdom. Father, help us to understand that Kingdom legacy is not merely about passing on information but about entrusting responsibility. In Jesus’ name. “One generation shall commend your works to another.” (Psalm 145:4)
2 Timothy 2:1-2 “You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, 2 and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also”

Father, give the younger generation humility to receive wisdom, correction, instruction, and guidance from those who have gone before them. Father, restore biblical honour between generations. In Jesus’ name. “Let the wise hear and increase in learning.” (Proverbs 1:5)
NATIONAL PRAYER FOR GENERATIONS WALKING TOGETHER IN KINGDOM PURPOSE
Father, in the mighty name of Jesus, we pray for the generations of South Africa to walk together in unity, humility, honour, and Kingdom purpose. Let younger generations not reject the wisdom, experience, and godly instruction of those who have gone before them.
Create a culture of mutual honour within our families and churches. Let grandparents, parents, young adults, teenagers, and children recognise that they are part of one spiritual family and one Kingdom mission.
Father, raise older men and women who will faithfully pass on wisdom, testimony, character, and biblical truth. Raise younger men and women who will receive instruction with humility, embrace responsibility, and faithfully carry the Kingdom assignment entrusted to them.
Let there be a powerful transfer of faith, wisdom, leadership, responsibility, and vision across generations. May the experience of one generation and the vision of another work together for the advancement of Your Kingdom.
We pray for churches that intentionally bring generations together rather than separating them unnecessarily. Father, let South Africa experience a new generation of Kingdom relationships where older and younger believers walk together, serve together, learn from one another, and fulfil Your purposes together.
May the legacy of faith being established today become a foundation for generations yet unborn. Let what You have entrusted to us be faithfully passed on until Christ is known and glorified throughout our nation.
