Walking as Salt and Light
Theme Scripture: Matthew 5:13-14
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavour, how shall it be seasoned?…14 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
Action item1: Influence your environment through godly character
Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavour, how shall it be seasoned?”
Philippians 2:15 “that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation….”
1 Peter 2:12 “Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds, and they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day He visits us”
- Preserving Righteousness: Lord, You have called us to be the salt of the earth – Matthew 5:13. Keep us steadfast in preserving righteousness wherever You place us. May our character reflect Your holiness, our words carry truth, and our actions uphold integrity. Do not let us lose our saltiness, but empower us to influence our environment with godly character, preserving justice, purity, and love in a world that is fading. In Jesus’ name we pray.
- Living Blamelessly: Father, help us to live blamelessly in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation according to Philippians 2:15. Let our lives reflect purity, integrity, and godly character, so that we may shine as a light in our environments. Remove every compromise and strengthen us to preserve righteousness, influencing others through the example of Christ in us. May our conduct draw people closer to You and glorify Your name.
- Godly Conduct: Lord, help us to live blamelessly before You and before others in accordance too 1 Peter 2:12. May our conduct be honourable, our words seasoned with grace, and our actions marked by integrity. Even when misunderstood or falsely accused, let our godly character shine as a testimony that draws others to glorify You. Strengthen us to preserve righteousness in our environment and to influence those around us through the example of Christ living in us. Amen
Action item 2: Shine the light of Christ in every sphere
Ephesians 5:8 “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”
Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven”
Acts 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me”
- Walking in Light: Lord, thank You for calling us out of darkness into Your marvellous light. Help us to walk daily as children of light, reflecting Your truth and righteousness in our environments. May our characters shine with integrity, purity, and love, influencing others to see Christ in us. Keep us steadfast in preserving righteousness, so that our lives become a testimony of Your transforming power, we pray in Jesus’ name
- Displaying Good Works: Father, let our lives shine with good works that reflect Your glory consistent with Matthew 5:16. May our actions, words, and characters influence our environments with righteousness and integrity. Teach us to live in such a way that others are drawn to You, and that every deed we display points people to glorify Your name. We pray in Jesus’ name.
- Bearing Witness: Lord, fill us afresh with the power of Your Holy Spirit, that we may bear faithful witness to Christ in our environments – Acts 1:8. Let our words, actions, and character testify of Your truth and love. May our lives influence others to know You, and may we shine as a living testimony that glorifies Your name in every place You send us, in Jesus’ name we pray.
Action item 3: Transform your sphere of influence intentionally
Colossians 4:6 “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”
Luke 16:10 “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much”
1 Corinthians 10:31 “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”
- Grace-Filled Influence: Lord, clothe our words and actions with Your grace – Colossians 4:6. Let our speech be seasoned with wisdom and kindness, so that we may influence our spheres with godly character. Teach us to respond with clarity, humility, and love, preserving righteousness and pointing others to Christ. May our presence bring transformation, and may our influence be marked by grace that glorifies You, in Jesus’ name we pray.
- Faithful Stewardship of Influence: Lord, teach us to steward every influence You have entrusted to us with faithfulness and integrity in line with Luke 16:10. Help us to be trustworthy in the small things, so that we may honour You in greater responsibilities. May our characters, decisions, and actions reflect Christ, transforming our spheres of influence intentionally and bringing glory to Your name.
- Intentional Impact: Lord, help us to live with intentional impact in every sphere of influence You have entrusted to us according to 1 Corinthians 10:31. May all that we do in word, deed, and character be done for Your glory. Teach us to act with purpose, to influence others with righteousness, and to transform our environments through Christ-centred living. Let our lives be a testimony that points people to You. In Jesus’ name.
