WEEK 21: DISCERNING THE TIMES – THE ISSACCHAR MANDATE

Day 146 (24 October 2026)

Theme: Discerning what God is doing in the Nation.
Spiritual discernment is not only recognising darkness; it is also perceiving what God is doing. Even in seasons of national difficulty, God is at work: raising people, opening doors, shifting circumstances, and preparing opportunities for His purposes. Today we pray for the Church in South Africa to recognise His movement, discern His timing, and align with His purposes. May we not become so focused on what is wrong that we miss what God is initiating. Give us eyes to see, wisdom to understand, and courage to participate faithfully in what He is doing in our nation.

Action item 1: Pray for the Church to Recognise the Movement of God

Isaiah 43:18-19 “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.”

John 5:19 “Then Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.’”

Habakkuk 1:5 “Look among the nations and watch be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days which you would not believe, though it were told you.”.

  • Father, give Your Church eyes to recognise Your activity in South Africa. Deliver us from becoming so consumed by crisis, corruption, instability, and darkness that we fail to see the evidence of Your hand. Show us where You are already moving. Reveal the people You are raising, the doors You are opening, the conversations You are initiating, and the places where hearts are becoming receptive to Your purposes. Give us the posture of Jesus, who watched what the Father was doing and aligned Himself with it. May Your Church not attempt to manufacture movement where You have not spoken, nor remain stationary where You are calling us forward. Father, open our eyes to recognise what You are doing in South Africa and give us grace to move with You, we pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Action item 2: Pray for Discernment of Divine Timings and Windows of Opportunity.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven:”

1 Chronicles 12:32 “of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their command;”

Revelation 3:7-8 “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write, ‘These things says He who is holy, He who is true, “He who has the key of David, He who opens and no one shuts, and shuts and no one opens”: “I know your works. See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name.”’

  • Father, give the Church in South Africa understanding of divine seasons and timings. Teach us to recognise when You have opened a door and when a window of opportunity requires courageous obedience. Deliver us from moving ahead of You through ambition and from remaining behind You through fear, tradition, complacency, or unbelief. Give leaders, intercessors, congregations, and believers sensitivity to Your timing. Where You are opening doors into education, government, communities, business, media, families, and other spheres of national life, give Your people wisdom to recognise them and courage to enter. Lord, make us a people who understand the times, recognise Your open doors, and respond faithfully when You call, in the name of Jesus our Lord we pray. Amen.

Action item 3: Pray for the Church to Align with and Participate in God’s Purposes.

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

Philippians 2:13 “for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”

Acts 13:36 “For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell asleep, was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption;”

  • Father, move Your Church from observation into participation. We do not want merely to speak about what You are doing; we desire to become faithful instruments through whom Your purposes are established. Show every congregation, ministry, leader, intercessor, family, and believer the part You have prepared for them. Break comparison, competition, territorialism, and the desire for recognition. Teach us to honour different assignments while serving one Kingdom. As David served his generation according to Your will, cause the Church in South Africa to serve this generation faithfully. Let our prayers become obedience, our discernment become strategy, and our revelation become responsible action. Father, align Your Church with Your purposes and position us to serve our generation according to Your will, in Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
