WEEK 21: DISCERNING THE TIMES – THE ISSACCHAR MANDATE

Day 145 (23 October 2026)

Theme: Discerning the Spiritual Climate over the Nation.

Discernment requires us to look beyond what is visible and recognise the spiritual realities influencing a season. Scripture reminds us that our struggle is not merely against flesh and blood, and therefore not every national challenge can be understood through political, economic, social, or cultural analysis alone. Today we pray for the Church in South Africa to develop mature spiritual perception – to recognise where God is moving, where darkness is seeking influence, where strongholds are shaping patterns, and where prayer and obedience are required. We ask the Holy Spirit to expose what lies beneath the surface while guarding us from suspicion, fear, speculation, and misdiagnosis. May the Church discern the spiritual climate accurately and respond not with panic or accusation, but with truth, prayer, righteousness, wisdom, and the authority of Jesus Christ.

Action item 1: Pray for Spiritual Eyes to See Beyond the Visible.

Ephesians 6:12 “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

2 Corinthians 4:18 “while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

2 Kings 6:16-17 “So he answered, ‘Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.’ And Elisha prayed, and said, ‘LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.’ Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.”

  • Father, in the name of Jesus, we ask that You open the spiritual eyes of Your Church in South Africa. Teach us to see beyond personalities, institutions, events, and circumstances and to discern what is taking place beneath the visible surface. Deliver us from reducing spiritual matters to human conflicts or making people the enemy when Your Word tells us that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood. Give intercessors, pastors, prophetic voices, and spiritual leaders mature perception to recognise the spiritual dimensions affecting our nation while remaining anchored in Scripture, humility, and love. Where fear has distorted our sight, open our eyes to Your sovereignty. Where distraction has kept us focused only on what is visible, awaken spiritual perception. May we see accurately so that we may pray accurately. Lord, open the eyes of Your Church to discern the spiritual realities of this season, in the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.

Action item 2: Pray for Discernment of Patterns, Strongholds, and Spiritual Influences.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5 “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”

Ephesians 6:10-11 “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

Hebrews 5:14 “But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”

  • Heavenly Father, give Your Church in South Africa discernment to recognise recurring spiritual patterns and the strongholds that seek to establish themselves over communities, institutions, generations, and the life of our nation. Teach us not merely to react to the visible manifestation of a problem, but to discern the arguments, beliefs, agreements, deceptions, and spiritual influences that sustain destructive patterns. Give Your intercessors wisdom to distinguish between what is human, what is systemic, what is spiritual, and what requires repentance and transformation. Guard us from calling everything spiritual warfare while neglecting righteousness, justice, truth, wisdom, and personal responsibility. Equally, keep us from reducing spiritual realities to merely social, political, economic, or psychological explanations. Expose every lie that has exalted itself against the knowledge of God. Reveal entrenched patterns of corruption, violence, lawlessness, division, hatred, injustice, greed, deception, idolatry, and rebellion wherever they have gained influence. Then show Your Church how to pray, how to repent, how to stand, and how to act. Father, give us accurate discernment to recognise strongholds without becoming preoccupied with darkness. Make us a Church that sees clearly, wars biblically, walks righteously, and exalts Jesus Christ above every power and principality, we pray in the name of Jesus the Christ. Amen.

Action item 3: Pray for Wisdom to Respond Correctly to what is Discerned.

1 Chronicles 12:32 “of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their command;”

James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”

Colossians 1:9 “For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

  • Father, we pray in the name of Jesus, do not allow Your Church merely to discern the spiritual climate; give us wisdom to know what to do with what You reveal. Raise an Issachar Church in South Africa that understands the times and knows the response required. Teach us when to pray, when to speak, when to remain silent, when to confront, when to build, and when to wait upon You. Deliver us from impulsive responses, fear-driven declarations, speculation, and spiritual pride. Let revelation produce obedience, strategy, intercession, righteousness, and Kingdom action. Give apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, intercessors, and believers wisdom to respond according to Your purposes. May our discernment never terminate in information; let it become responsible spiritual action. Father, give Your Church understanding of the times and wisdom to know what South Africa requires from us in this season. Amen.

PROPHETIC DECLARATIONS:

  • We declare that the Church in South Africa will see clearly and discern accurately. (2 Kings 6:17)
  • We declare that strongholds, deceptive arguments, and spiritual influences contrary to the purposes of God will be exposed and brought into submission to Christ. The Church will not war according to the flesh but will wield the spiritual weapons God has given with wisdom, truth, and authority. (2 Corinthians 10:4)
  • We declare that South Africa will have an Issachar Church – mature, discerning, and able to understand the times. God will raise believers who recognise the significance of the season and know how His people ought to respond. (1 Chronicles 12:32)
  • We declare that discernment in the Body of Christ will be purified from fear, suspicion, speculation, and accusation. Our spiritual senses will be trained by the Word and matured through obedience so that we discern good and evil accurately. (Hebrews 5:14)
  • We declare that what God reveals to His Church concerning South Africa will produce prayer, obedience, wisdom, righteousness, and Kingdom action. We will not merely recognise the spiritual climate; we will know how to respond under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, and Christ will be exalted over our nation. (Colossians 1:9)
