Week 03: Standing in the Gap against Destruction and Disaster

As we pray through Week 3 of May, we turn our focus toward intercession for South Africa amid the flooding, destructive winds, storms, infrastructure collapse, fear, and instability affecting various provinces across the nation. While the overarching emphasis of this month remains the strengthening of the family altar, we recognise that families cannot be separated from the conditions surrounding them.

In this week of prayer, we stand as watchmen over the nation, not in fear, but in faith; contending for mercy, protection, repentance, healing, restoration, and divine intervention over South Africa. We bring affected communities, grieving families, emergency responders, leaders, and vulnerable households before the Lord, declaring that God remains our refuge and strong tower in times of trouble.

Recent severe weather conditions, including flooding, snowfall, destructive winds and storm damage, have led to loss of life, displacement, and widespread infrastructure damage across multiple provinces. As believers, we respond not with panic, but with prayer, compassion, and unwavering trust in God’s sovereignty over the nation.

 Week 3: Restoration and Rebuilding

Day 21 (22 May 2026)

Theme: I will Restore (Joel 2:25-26)

Prayer Point: Asking God to restore and rebuild our nation.

Action item 1: Pray for restoration of the years the locust has eaten.

Joel 2:25–26 “I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten – the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm -my great army that I sent among you. 26 You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you; never again will my people be shamed.

  • Jesus, You are the Head. You are the Head of all authority in all existence, in every realm. You are the source of power. You are the source of all that is. You are the Creator. Thank You, Jesus, for imparting Your authority to us. We take our position now, restored because of what You did at the cross. And as Your image bearers, with Your authority to subdue the earth. Thank You, Jesus. We will speak, and it will be established.  Father, restore homes, livelihoods, infrastructure and communities damaged by disaster.  We decree Joel 2 :25-26 over our nation. We trust in Your goodness and mercy to restore us completely in Jesus’ name.

Action item 2:  Pray for Godly provision to be released.

Nehemiah 2:18 “And may I have a letter to Asaph, keeper of the royal park, so he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the citadel by the temple and for the city wall and for the residence I will occupy?” And because the gracious hand of my God was on me, the king granted my requests.”

  • Father in the name of Jesus, we ask that You release provision, aid, and supernatural help to the affected families and regions. As You provided for Nehemiah (Nehemiah 2:18), we ask for supernatural favour and grace upon those in need, and for restoration and rebuilding at a supernatural speed.  We pray that You will restore double for their trouble. We thank You that You will redeem every situation and that people’s hearts will overflow with gratitude and praise to You, our magnificent and holy King.

Action item 3: Prayer for our nation to arise stronger.

Jeremiah 30:17 “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,’

declares the Lord, ‘because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.’”

Psalm 90:15-17 “Make us glad according to the days in which You have afflicted us, The years in which we have seen evil. 16Let Your work appear to Your servants, And Your glory to their children. 17And let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands.”

  • Let South Africa arise stronger, wiser and more united after this difficult season as we speak Jeremiah 30:17 as well as Ps 90:15-17 over our nation. We’ve been overwhelmed with grief; come now and overwhelm us with gladness. Replace our years of trouble with decades of delight. Let us see Your miracles again and let the rising generation see the glorious wonders You’re famous for. O Lord our God, let Your sweet beauty rest upon us. Come work with us, and then our works will endure; You will give us success in all we do in Jesus’ name we pray.
