WEEK 13: THE CHURCH AS SALT AND LIGHT

Day 85 (24 August 2026)

Theme: Awakening the Church to her Salt and Light Mandate

Praying for the Church in South Africa to awaken afresh to her identity, responsibility, and Kingdom mandate as the salt of the earth and the light of the world. Asking the Lord to move the Church beyond passive observation and inward-focused gathering into a mature, visible, and righteous presence within society. Praying that believers will understand that their everyday lives, values, decisions, leadership, service, and witness are instruments through which Christ brings His influence into communities, institutions, and culture.

Action item 1: Awaken the Church to her Kingdom identity.

1 Peter 2:9–10 (KJV) 9 But ye [are] a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light: 10 Which in time past [were] not a people, but [are] now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”

Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”

2 Corinthians 5:20 (KJV) “Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech [you] by us: we pray [you] in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.”

  • Father in the mighty name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. We humble ourselves unto the throne of Grace and we bring the body of Christ before You Lord. As the church we have left our position. We find ourselves in the four walls of air-conditioned buildings and have forgotten that the church is us Your people and not the walls. We have fallen into religious routine and have forgotten Your mandate which says “Go ye into the world and preach the good news, baptising them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Matthew 28:19. We have lost our identity in Christ. We pray at this time that we be awakened afresh to our identity in Christ, that we remember who we are and whose we are. That we remember what is the calling upon us as a church and begin to walk in that calling in all four corners of this country and all the mountains of influence. We pray that our zeal for the Lord be returned that we not find ourselves being spit out because of our lukewarmness. Revelations 3:16. Lord help us to return to our position and to run this race with diligence, excellence and honour in Jesus Christ’s name.

Action item 2: Restore the distinctiveness of the Church

Matthew 5:13 (KJV)Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.”

Romans 12:2 (KJV) “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

Philippians 2:14–16 (KJV) “14 Do all things without murmurings and disputing: 15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; 16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.”

  • Father, although we are in this world, we are not of the world. John 17: 14 – 15. We pray that we be reminded of this as a church. That we should not conform to the world. That we should not be the same as the world but that we be distinct, and stand out from the world. We pray the light in us to continually shine and where it has become dim, it be reignited. Separate us Lord from the culture of compromise, we pray that we boldly declare the word and boldly walk in righteousness in Jesus Christ’s name. We pray Lord that we at all times reflect You. As You are Love, let the love that is poured in our hearts be shared with all mankind, this is what will distinguish us. Romans 5:5 We pray that we walk in integrity as a church at all times and not find ourselves compromising, thus disgracing Your word in Jesus Christ’s name we pray.

Action item 3: Mobilize the Church into visible Kingdom witness

Romans 12:2 (KJV) “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Acts 1:8 (KJV) “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Titus 2:11–14 (KJV) 11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”

  • Father, when the church became comfortable You raised up the likes of Saul of Tarsus in their midst, this forced the church to flee and go into the world to preach the Good-news of salvation, to witness on Jesus Christ. We pray right now that the Church in South Africa become visible Kingdom witnesses. We pray that the church become the sphere of influence in all seven mountains, that those who are deployed boldly proclaim the word of the Lord without fear or favour. We pray that the church be no longer a light that is hidden, but be a visible light, that even though we gather for fellowship we take what You have mandated us to “Go Ye” outside the four walls of the buildings we gather in! In the precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ we pray.
