WEEK 21: DISCERNING THE TIMES – THE ISSACCHAR MANDATE
Day 141 (19 October 2026)
Theme: Understanding the Times
As South Africa enters a new season of Kingdom responsibility, we pray for the grace to discern the times accurately. The sons of Issachar were distinguished not merely because they recognised what was happening around them, but because they possessed understanding that revealed what Israel ought to do. In the same way, South Africa needs more than information, commentary, or reaction; we need spiritual intelligence. Today we ask God to sharpen the discernment of the Church and the nation so that we recognise His movements, understand the significance of the season, and respond according to His wisdom and purpose.
Action item 1: Pray for an Issachar Anointing upon the Church.
1 Chronicles 12:32 “of the sons of Issachar who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do, their chiefs were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their command;”
Daniel 2:21-22 “And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding. He reveals deep and secret things; He knows what is in the darkness, and light dwells with Him.”
Ephesians 5:15-17 “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”
- Father, awaken the Church in South Africa to the significance of this hour. Deliver us from spiritual dullness, distraction, complacency, and reactionary thinking. Raise prophetic and apostolic voices who understand the times without being captured by fear, politics, popular opinion, or prevailing narratives. Give Your Church wisdom to interpret what is unfolding through the counsel of Your Word and the revelation of the Holy Spirit, and to know what ought to be done. We ask for an Issachar anointing upon the Church of Jesus Christ in South Africa, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Action item 2: Pray for Discernment in National Leadership and Decision Making.
1 Kings 3:9 “Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”
Proverbs 2:6-7 “For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly;”
Proverbs 14:8 “The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way, but the folly of fools is deceit.”
- Father, grant understanding hearts to those entrusted with leadership in South Africa. Give wisdom and discernment to those making decisions in government, the judiciary, business, education, the Church, civil society, communities, and families. Expose short-sighted decisions, hidden agendas, deception, and counsel that would lead the nation away from righteousness. Raise leaders who can perceive beyond immediate pressures and understand the long-term consequences of the choices made in this season. May South Africa be led by men and women who discern wisely and act courageously for the good of generations to come, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
Action item 3: Pray That South Africa Will Recognise Its Divine Moments.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 “To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven:”
Luke 12:54–56 “Then He also said to the multitudes, ‘Whenever you see a cloud rising out of the west, immediately you say, “A shower is coming”; and so it is. And when you see the south wind blow, you say, “There will be hot weather”; and there is. Hypocrites! You can discern the face of the sky and of the earth, but how is it you do not discern this time?’”
Romans 13:11 “And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed
- Father, in the name of Jesus, do not allow South Africa to miss the moments You have appointed for her. Give us eyes to recognise divine opportunities, moments of transition, warnings that require response, and doors that You are opening. Awaken the nation from spiritual sleep and teach us to distinguish between ordinary events and moments carrying prophetic significance. Where You require repentance, let us repent; where You require courage, let us arise; where You open doors, let us enter; and where You command movement, let us obey. May South Africa discern her appointed times and respond faithfully to the purposes of God in this generation. Amen.
