Week 03: Standing in the Gap against Destruction and Disaster

As we enter Week 3 of May, we turn our focus toward intercession for South Africa amid the flooding, destructive winds, storms, infrastructure collapse, fear, and instability affecting various provinces across the nation. While the overarching emphasis of this month remains the strengthening of the family altar, we recognise that families cannot be separated from the conditions surrounding them.
In this week of prayer, we stand as watchmen over the nation, not in fear, but in faith; contending for mercy, protection, repentance, healing, restoration, and divine intervention over South Africa. We bring affected communities, grieving families, emergency responders, leaders, and vulnerable households before the Lord, declaring that God remains our refuge and strong tower in times of trouble.
Recent severe weather conditions, including flooding, snowfall, destructive winds and storm damage, have led to loss of life, displacement, and widespread infrastructure damage across multiple provinces. As believers, we respond not with panic, but with prayer, compassion, and unwavering trust in God’s sovereignty over the nation.

Week 3: Breaking the Spirit of Destruction

Day 19 (20 May 2026)

Theme: No weapon formed against us (Isaiah 54:17 )

Prayer Points: Breaking the Spirit of Destruction.

Action item 1: Declaring Life over death and destruction.
John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.

  • Father, we come to You in the name of Your Son Jesus. Jesus, You are the Head. You are the Head of all authority in all existence, in every realm. You are the source of power. You are the source of all that is. You are the Creator. Thank You Jesus, for imparting Your authority to us. We take our position now, restored because of what You did at the cross. And as Your image bearers, with Your authority to subdue the earth, we will speak, and it will be established. In the name of Jesus, we resist every spirit of destruction, chaos and death operating over the nation. We ask for Your mercy over our land. Father, we repent of sin, corruption, injustice, hatred, violence, and every action that has opened doors to destruction. Forgive us, cleanse us, and wash us through the blood of the Lamb. We declare life over this nation. Let hope arise where there has been despair, healing where there has been brokenness, and restoration where there has been loss. We pray against premature death, violence, accidents, addiction, suicide, fear, and every force that seeks to destroy lives. Let Your light overcome darkness. We thank you that South Africa will have life and have it to the full according to John 10:10.

Action item 2: No Weapon formed will prosper.
Isaiah 54:17 “’No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me,’ declares the LORD.

  • Father, let every assignment bringing fear, instability and devastation be overturned by the power of God in the mighty name of Jesus. According to Isaiah 54:17, no weapon forged against us will prevail, and we will refute every tongue that accuses us. This is our heritage as the servants of the LORD, and You will vindicate us, we pray this in the mighty name of Jesus.

Action item 3: Prayer of Protection.
Ephesians 6:11-12 “11Put on the full armour of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places”.
Psalm 91:11 “For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.”

  • Father, we thank You for Your mercy and faithfulness over South Africa. Establish Your hedge of protection around our cities, towns, homes, infrastructure, leaders, borders, and all who dwell within this nation. Let Your peace prevail over violence, fear, destruction, and unrest.
  • Command Your angel armies concerning this land, that they may guard and protect according to Your will. We thank You for divine preservation, for wisdom among authorities, and for safety over families, workers, travellers, children, and communities. We thank You, Father, for Your protection, mercy, and saving power according to Psalm 91:11. We pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
