WEEK 8: UNITY & SOCIAL COHESION
Day 51: (21 July 2026)
Repentance for Division, Racism, Tribalism, Xenophobia, And Prejudice – repenting for the sins, attitudes, words, systems, and historical injustices that have divided South Africans and hindered God’s desire for reconciliation and unity.
Action item 1: Repent for the sin of division and prejudice
I John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Daniel 9:5-6 “we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have done wickedly and rebelled, even by departing from Your precepts and Your judgments. 6 “Neither have we heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings and our princes, to our fathers and all the people of the land.”
James 2:8-9 “If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbour as yourself,” you do well; 9 but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors.”
- Father, we have sinned and committed iniquity. We repent for the sins of division, racism, tribalism, xenophobia, suspicion, prejudice, and every form of discrimination in our nation. Forgive us for every attitude, word, action and system that has not produces the love You have commanded. Cleanse our hearts from pride, hatred, fear, and unforgiveness, and fill our hearts with Your love for our neighbour. Birth a unity among the people of South Africa as we learn to honour every person as one created in Your image. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Action item 2: Repent for historical and present day injustice
Nehemiah 1:6-7 “please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned. 7 “We have acted very corruptly against You, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses.”
Micah 6:8 “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
Isaiah 1:16-17 “Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before My eyes. Cease to do evil, 17 Learn to do good; seek justice, rebuke the oppressor; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.”
- Father, Father, we repent for the injustices of the past and the present that have wounded communities, broken trust, and brought division in our nation. Cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and lead us to seek justice, defend the vulnerable, and walk in righteousness before You. We ask You to heal our nation, restore hope, and establish Your justice in every sphere of society. Cleanse us from all unrighteousness, turn our hearts toward Your ways, and empower us to seek justice, defend the vulnerable, and walk humbly in obedience before You. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
Action item 3: Pray for hearts that reflect Christ’s love and humility
Colossians 3:12-15 “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.”
Philippians 2:3-5 “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus.”
Romans 12:18 “If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men.”
- Father, we repent and ask You to remove every root of bitterness, offence, fear, pride, and unforgiveness, and clothe us with tender mercies, kindness, humility, patience, forgiveness, and peace. Renew our hearts to reflect the love and compassion of Christ as we honour others above ourselves, to seek good and to choose reconciliation over resentment. Help us to pursue peace across every divide, so that Your love may bind us together in unity and Christ may be revealed through our words and actions. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
Prophetic Declarations
- We declare that every form of oppression, inequality, violence, exploitation, and partiality in our land will be exposed and brought into the light.
- We pray and declare healing over broken trust between communities, families, and institutions across the nation.
- We declare that God’s righteousness and justice will prevail in every sphere of society, from leadership to local communities.
- We proclaim restoration over South Africa, believing that the Lord will cleanse our nation and establish a foundation of truth, justice, and reconciliation.
