WEEK 8: UNITY & SOCIAL COHESION
Day 53: (23 July 2026)
The Ministry of Reconciliation – The Church as a Peacemaker – Calling the Church to model Christ’s ministry of reconciliation by promoting forgiveness, justice, humility, and peace, and by leading the nation in healing divisions through the love of Christ.
Action item 1: Pray for the Church to model biblical unity and reconciliation
John 17:20-23 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; 21 “that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 “And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: 23 “I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.”
Ephesians 4:1-6 “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”
Psalm 133:1-3 “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! 2 It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. 3 It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the LORD commanded the blessing– life forevermore.”
- Father, You have called us to be one body in Christ. Unite Your Church across every denomination, race, culture, language, and community, that we may reflect the love and unity of Jesus to the world. Teach us to walk in humility, gentleness, patience, and love, bearing with one another to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. May the oneness for which Jesus prayed be seen in our lives, and may Your Church become a living testimony of Your reconciling power. As Your Blessing rests on a united church, draw unbelievers to Jesus Christ and bring glory to Your name. We ask this in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
Action item 2: Pray for the Church to fulfil the ministry of reconciliation
2 Corinthians 5:18-20 “Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.”
Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.”
Colossians 3:12-15 “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.”
- Father, thank You for bringing us into relationship with You through Christ Jesus and called us to be ministers of reconciliation. Fill us with tender mercies, kindness, humility, patience, forgiveness, and love, so that we may reflect the heart of Christ in all we do. Make our churches places of healing, restoration, forgiveness, and hope, where people encounter Your love and are reconciled to You. Make us faithful ambassadors who bring hope, healing, and peace, as we point others to Jesus. Raise up peacemakers who will build bridges and restore broken relationships. Make us sensitive to the prompting of Your Holy Spirit, so that we may recognise opportunities to lead others into reconciliation with You. May Christ Jesus be glorified as lives are restored, relationships are healed, and communities are transformed by Your reconciling love. We pray in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
Action item 3: Declare the Church as a catalyst for national unity and peace
Isaiah 58:12 “Those from among you shall build the old waste places; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, the Restorer of Streets to dwell In.”
Philippians 2:1-5 “Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. 5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,”
Matthew 5:14-16 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 “Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.”
- Father, we declare that Your Church will arise as a courageous and compassionate witness to Christ, bringing unity, peace, and restoration to our nation. Make us repairers of the breach and restorers of what has been broken. Give us the mind of Christ, that we may lead with humility and serve others in love. Let Your Church shine as a light across South Africa, bringing hope, healing, and reconciliation, reflecting Your Kingdom values in every community, drawing many to Jesus Christ as Your name is lifted high. We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Prophetic Declarations
- We declare that the Church in South Africa will arise as a courageous and compassionate witness to Christ, faithfully reflecting His truth in every sphere of society.
- We proclaim that the Body of Christ will walk in justice, mercy, and peace, demonstrating the character of Jesus through word and action.
- We declare that the Church will be an instrument of healing in broken places, bringing reconciliation where there has been division and pain.
- We proclaim that believers across South Africa will reflect God’s Kingdom through love, humility, and servant-hearted leadership.
- We declare that the Church will stand united, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and lead the nation toward restoration, hope, and lasting unity.
