Day 2: Repenting for National Sins
Action Item 1: Identify and confess specific national sins (e.g., violence, racism, corruption, immorality).
Prayer Points:
- Lord, we confess the sins of South Africa – violence, racism, corruption, immorality, and injustice. We acknowledge our nation’s transgressions before You according to Daniel 9:5 – “We have sinned and done wrong. We have been wicked and have rebelled; we have turned away from your commands and laws.”
- Forgive us for the shedding of innocent blood and for every act that has grieved Your heart. We acknowledge Psalm 106:38 – “They shed innocent blood… and the land was desecrated by their blood.” and repent of heinous transgression in Jesus’ name.
- We repent for idolatry and every way we have turned from Your truth as a nation. Standing on 1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Actions Item 2: Stand in the gap, asking God for mercy and forgiveness on behalf of the land (see Daniel 9:3-19 for inspiration).
Prayer Points:
- Father, have mercy on South Africa and do not treat us as our sins deserve in accordance to Psalm 103:10 – “He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities.”
- We stand in the gap, asking You to forgive our land and heal our people as directed in Ezekiel 22:30 – “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land…”
- Let Your mercy triumph over judgment in South Africa according to James 2:13 – “Mercy triumphs over judgment.”
Action Item 3: Declare God’s promise in 2 Chronicles 7:14: “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray…”
Prayer Points:
- We declare Your promise: “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 - Restore righteousness, justice, and truth in South Africa according to Isaiah 1:26 – “I will restore your judges as at the first, and your counsellors as at the beginning. Afterward you shall be called the city of righteousness, the faithful city.”
- Let South Africa fulfill its redemptive purpose in Your plan according to Psalm 2:8 – “Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession.”
